Big Win on Patuxent Coal Waste!

March 26, 2018
With great pride and joy, We are pleased to report that the Prince George’s County District Council earlier today voted unanimously to disapprove the special exception for the Brandywine Coal Ash disposal site operated by NRG on North Keyes Road. We won! Granted, NRG might appeal this latest decision, but our advocacy posture going forward is stronger now than at any earlier point during the past 45 years that local citizens have had chagrin about this toxic dump in their midst. An enormous shout out of thanks to BTB Coalition, Clean Air Prince George’s, PG Sierra Club, Greater Baden Acquasco Citizens Association, University of Maryland Environmental Law Clinic, and of course Patuxent Riverkeeper along with numerous concerned citizens, expert witnesses, neighbors and others (Thanks also are due to the Prince George’s County District Council!). It’s great to see the good folks win now and again! It’s a blow for the very worthwhile cause of alleviating the environmental justice woes of Brandywine and the near environs. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication to the cause of protecting citizens, communities and their environment.
