10:00 am-noon —Teach-In: Community Discussion- Putting the Power of Law in People’s Hands
Friends from the legal empowerment group Namati will share how communities in India, Sierra Leone, and elsewhere are using law to protect their water and their land and surrounding environment. We’ll compare those experiences with similar efforts in Maryland, and explore how we might further equip communities here to understand, use, and shape the law
1:00pm -3:00pm—2018 Sacred Waters Ceremony
An opportunity to experience the river using the ancient rites of the river’s indigenous first residents. Non-denominational, participatory and soulful, according to the ways of the indigenous ancestors
4:00pm–6:00pm—Annual Member meeting
Meet and Greet Board members and staff and discussion of recent wins, activities and plans to for protecting and restoring the Patuxent River.
7:00pm-9:00pm—Pot luck, Bonfire, storytelling & drum circle under a full moon!
Party time! Bring a musical instrument, a dish or beverage to share and enjoy yourself next to the river.
